The Kumbartcho Sanctuary, Eatons Hill is a 6-hectare site located upriver on the banks of the South Pine River. It contains the last traces of rainforest ecosystems which existed when European settlers first arrived in the area. Previously home to the Bunya Park Wildlife Sanctuary, the Kumbartcho grounds include features such as a koala view deck, native animal sanctuary, plant nursery, dam and environment centre.

The centre is free of charge to enter and visitors can engage with a range of displays including a 4 foot long fish tank and nocturnal display.

Native Wildlife

Visitors can expect to see a variety of finned, feathered, freaky and furry creatures, including koalas, frogs, snakes, turtles, and possums. The South Pine River also has a range of water and shore birds and predatory raptors. Please avoid taking risks and stick to the paths. Do not get too close, touch or feed the native animals. Even the sweetest koala may become aggressive if provoked.
